Phonics and Language
This area includes materials extending from pre-reading and pre-writing to reading, writing and grammar activities. The classroom is a language-rich environment and the teachers help the children to develop the listening, speaking and writing strategies. The language environment is rich due to different languages including Arabic language that is related to their memorization and recitation of the holy Quran.

The understanding of languages for children also can be enhanced through the activities of story telling, songs and rhymes where sometimes the teachers tell them a story on the Sirah of Prophets. Through these activities, the children indirectly will be equipped with the examples of good values and morality that is promoted in Islam.

Math and Number Skills

The materials in this area are designed to lay the foundation for mathematical concepts and relationships. The role of the teacher is to relate each number introduced to a well known thing. Through the understanding of mathematical concepts the child will experience critical thinking skills through problem solving techniques.

Exercises of Practical life
The children are helped to express Islamic attitude and behavior proudly and openly. Children practice tasks of daily life such as spooning, pouring, greeting, hand washing, lacing, buttoning, preparing and serving food. The activities in practical life are numerous, varied and always a favorite of the children. These activities should be introduced to the child in certain way that he/she will understand the purpose of each activity and how does it infect his life style as Muslim. It helps the child to know how to take care, handle and be responsible to the environment.

Sensorial Exercise

Allah created our senses to facilitate us to know and to feel things around us. Loving beauty comes through our senses. Loving Allah should come through discovering things around us by using our senses that are created by Allah.

Children use and sharpen their five senses as they learn about the fundamental properties of the environment. They learn about shape, size, weight, texture, sound and the like as they match, sort or grade various materials according to their properties.

Cultural Subjects
During cultural time children are supposed to sit in a circle where they can share a good experience of learning several things. Children also can have a good time to touch and see things presented by the teacher. Circle time is important were a teacher besides her presentation of any scientific or geographic or historic subjects, will speak about morals and open a discussion section with children. Indirectly it will enhance social awareness and interaction among the child.

Ibadah

The implementation of ibadah in our life reflects the development of an individual in various aspects; physical, spiritual, intellectual and behavioral. Therefore, in IIUM Montessori young children have been exposed to the ibadah activities like praying, recitation of surah’s from the Quran and dua’s in order to prepare them to be good Muslim children.

Art & Craft
This area is very important in order to develop the children’s concentration through their observation. Normally children love to be involved in this activity because through art and craft activity they will get the feeling to express themselves freely and also enhance their creativity.

In Montessori Method, tessellation is one of the famous materials that are being used by the children in order to introduce them to the geometric designs that can be found in many Islamic historical buildings like mosques, which is of great importance and needs to be preserved. Islam encourages people to be creative in their work because creativity produces excellent output.
